STUDENTS TROOP TO EACC STAND TO LEARN ETHICS

18th September, 2017: The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commissions stand at the just concluded Central Kenya National Show in Nyeri had a special appeal for students, who trooped to it in larger numbers.

EACC officers interacted with the students and enlightened them on the Commissions mandate, their role in fighting corruption and the process of establishing Integrity Clubs in schools. The clubs are an initiative of the Commission, which it uses to help instil integrity values in schools.

Primary School pupils listen to EACC Officers as they expound on Integrity Clubs and Ethics.

Through its Department of Education, Training and Public Awareness, the Commission trains patrons and students who act as integrity champions. The champions and patrons are also given an Integrity Club Guide book to help them execute their roles and to steer the clubs and ensure sustainability. More than 100 such clubs have been established in schools countrywide.

At the EACC stand, there were various publications that focused on pupils, students, public officers and the public in general. The publications included childrens books containing stories that have moral lessons focussing on the character formation of the children. The books specifically target lower primary school children. They were issued to the many children who visited the EACC booth.

The show, an annual event organized by the Agricultural Society of Kenya, was held at the Kabiruini Showground from 11th to 16 September with the theme, Promoting Innovation and Technology in Agriculture and Trade. It attracted more than 100 exhibitors from sectors such as manufacturing, financial services, education and government institutions, among many others.

Students dominated the first four days, although the last day was largely attended by the general public.

During the official opening by President Uhuru Kenyatta, on Wednesday 13th September, Commissioner Dr. Dabar Maalim visited the EACC booth, and expressed his appreciation for the good work and great display that had be put up by the team on the ground. He was accompanied by the Central Region Coordinator, Mr. Jackson Mue, who played a fundamental role in ensuring the success of the event.
